Маčva

Pins are very important part of women`s headgear jewellry. In the region of Mačva they were a part of bridal folk costume and a festive folk costume of married women. Apart from its basic practical purpose, which is to fix the scarf to the wooden band, this pin also had decorative purpose and the apotropaic purpose, too- to advert the evil look by its beauty. At the same time, it was also women`s social status simbol- it showed that the woman wearing it was married. They were made of various metals and their alloys, done in different techniques, such as casting, filigree and granulation. Pin heads are mostly ball-shaped and they were either hollow or filled. They were most often decorated with geometrically stylised floral ornament or richly decorated with numerous granules and spirally curled string.
